As you may know, man's most basic form of mechanical transportation does not usually come with super cool safety features like anti-lock breaking systems, air bags, crumple zones and reinforced doors. Well, quite simply put, bicycles don't have the space and the compartments to fit all of those safety measures in. So, with the lack of all those features, does that mean that bicycles are injuries waiting to happen? Not exactly as it all depends on how you ride your bicycle. We don't exactly bike at speeds of over a hundred miles per hour or so. But no matter how fast we pedal our bikes or the lack thereof for that matter, we should always make sure that we are protected one way or another. Here are a couple of devices or equipment that you can purchase in any store of your choice that sell such products to further ensure your safety while pedaling yourself to go to places near and far. 1. A helmet A helmet practically acts as a device that protects your head from any injuries that you might experience. This means concussions, bumps, bruises and blows to your head could all be avoided if you wear your helmet properly when you ride your bike. Bear in mind however, that wearing a helmet does not merit or encourage you to do reckless things when riding a bike. You should never act like everything is going to be alright now that you're wearing something that is specifically designed to protect you from injury or at least reduce its extent of bodily harm. It is perhaps the most important safety device that you would ever have to purchase when riding a bike. In fact, in some places, you are even required or encouraged to wear helmets while riding your bicycles to places that you wish to go to. If you have kids, you should always make it a habit to educate them and inform them of the importance of wearing a helmet. You should also show them how to properly wear and use them too. 2. Some training wheels If you have just bought your kid his first bicycle, there's a pretty big chance that he might not be able to know how to ride that bicycle of his properly enough to make him pedal and propel himself without falling. If this is the case, you should think about installing some training wheels on your son's bike so he can keep his balance while he is still learning how to work his bike, pedal and what not. 3. Some elbow or knee pads It's almost a given that you would fall sooner or later once you start riding a bike. Everyone has fallen perhaps, but we just don't know when exactly this sort of thing would happen to us. By all means, we should do whatever we can to try and avoid these situations, but when the time comes that it is definitely unavoidable, you should protect yourself with some protective gear like elbow and knee pads so you wouldn't be breaking a bone or two. |
