Four Essential Bike Equipment In Fixing A Flat

One of the most important parts of a bicycle is its wheels. Bicycle wheels are of various types and sizes. To name a few are road or racing bike wheels, mountain bike wheels and the BMX wheels. Bike tires must be durable and of great quality to keep your ride safe and secure.

When riding your bike on a sunny summer day, make sure that they are in good shape before use or else, you will end up spoiling your day when seeing that you have flats. Especially when joining a bicycle race, your tires must have an even inflation. This will make your travel smoother and faster.

One way of improving your riding efficiency is to maintain the correct and appropriate pressure on your tires. At the same time, proper tire pressure will protect your wheels from any damage or harm.

When you encounter flats, you need to replace your bicycle tires sooner. Changing your wheels is a simple process. However, it requires you to use some important bike equipment. These tools will be a big help to replace your tires easily. Here are some of the essential equipment in fixing a flat.

• Pliers

You use pliers to loosen and attach the skewer or nuts. Be sure to carefully release the axle bolts. Lubricants may be of a big help especially when the nuts are too tight. However, bikes nowadays no longer have nuts; hence, removing the wheel from the frame is a lot easier. To remove the wheel, many suggest that it is better and safer to loosen the brakes.

• Tire levers

You need a couple of tire levers to remove the wheel. To do this, you simply put the lever between the tire and the wheel rim. Then, pry it upward over the rim to lift the wheel. Tire levers are also helpful in removing the old tube from the bicycle's tire.

• Screwdrivers

Screwdrivers are intended to remove, loosen or tighten screws, nuts or bolts. When removing the wheel and tube, you need some screwdrivers to unscrew the nuts from the valves.

• Tire pumps

Tire pumps are used to inflate wheels. When placing air into the tube, inflate it slowly and the tire must be filled with air consistently. See to it that the tube is neither pinched nor twisted to let the air flow properly inside the tube. Otherwise, there will be uneven inflation. If this happens, you simply let the air out and find out if the tube was pinched or twisted. Then you can inflate the tire all over again.

Tire pumps are of two kinds, the floor pumps and the frame pumps. The first is actually designed for home use. Frame pumps on the other hand are usually brought by cyclists on the road.

These are necessary bike equipment especially for bike racers. Remember that you will never know when you will get a flat tire, so it is best to bring your tire pumps with you all the time.
