Four Standard Accessories That Should Be On A New Bicycle

Are you planning to buy a bicycle soon? It's actually the best alternative to all the rising fuel prices these days. Plus, you get good exercise while you are on your way to work or school. Now, there are so many bicycles that you can buy out there from hundreds of stores. You can even purchase them online. But the trick to getting a bicycle that suits your needs is to see what accessories it is packed with upon purchase. And here are some of the standard accessories that should be given when you get one.

• A pump – It can be a foot pump, a mini pump, a hand pump; any kind of pump that you can dream of, as long as the bicycle that you buy comes with one. This is really important and many bicycle sellers will give you one as a standard, usually the long type that is attached to the frame of the bike. But you might be buying a second-hand bike so make sure that the person you are buying it from can also give you a bike pump for the possible flat moments you experience on the street.

• Valve covers – As silly as it may seem, a lot of people tend to forget the importance of valve covers. These are those plastic little items that cover the valves of your tires so that air doesn't escape after you have pumped them. These are also there to help avoid any damage done to the actual valve. A second-hand bike might have them missing so if you are shopping for a used bike, look at the tire valves and see if the covers are missing. Yes, they can be replaced but as a standard, it's best to have them there so you don't have to go through the tedious process of looking for just the right ones for your bike.

• Tire reflectors – Accidents happen a lot at night especially when it comes to bike riding. This is because people tend to forget that they need either reflectors or reflective stickers on their bikes. These reflectors can literally save your life. Are you buying a new or old bike? Make sure that this is the first thing that you look into. Safety is always first.

• A helmet – There used to be a time when bicycles were sold without helmets. In fact, you will most likely have to buy helmets separately in some stores. But there are some dealers that offer helmets as a standard. They are usually stock helmets that can be quite temporary but at the very least they are useful in preventing any damage done to your person if you get into an accident. When buying a new bike, ask if one of the standard items that you get is a helmet. This way, you can buy the bike, wear the helmet and ride it immediately after leaving the store. Again, safety is most important.
