Top Three Reasons To Teach Your Kid To Bike

A number of moms and dads notice that when they bring their 5 year old boy and girl to go shopping for toys at the local store, the usually make a run to the aisle where the bicycles are located. This is not such a surprise as the age of five or six years old is typically the age when children would want to venture and take on a little risk on their own. And you would notice that usually children's places glow with glee at the prospect of being able to have and to ride their very first bicycle.

There are however, some parents who are uncertain and skeptical about giving their children bicycles. Perhaps, this is because of the likely risk of broken bones and other injury that their boys and girls may suffer in case there are unexpected accidents while they are riding their bikes. Parents should understand that in spite of the potential hazard and danger that the bicycle may bring to their children, there are a good number of benefits that bicycles offer and here are just a few of them.

* Bicycles make children happy and keep them in good spirits. Think about it, your child has been tugging on your shoulder sleeve for some time to ask you to purchase a bicycle for him. Imagine how happy it would make him if you actually brought him one. For people who have ridden a bicycle, there is a certain delight that one feels as he strides and balances himself on the two wheeled device. There is that sense of excitement and adventure in riding bikes that should keep your son or daughter happy every time he rides one.

* Riding bicycles can give your child a sense of self confidence. It was a treat to see your child making his first step without having to hold on to someone else's hand. This small accomplishment is a big deal to a child, as this is his first step to independence: to be able to handle walking on his own. Seeing him being able to ride his bike all on his own is that and more. Balancing yourself on two wheels is not an easy feat. There are even some adults out there who cannot handle the same. So when your child is able to ride his bicycle without any help or support, this would truly boost his confidence and his belief in his capabilities. It makes boys and girls realize that they can do more as long as they have the will and the perseverance to achieve the things they dream to do.

* To ride a bike is not only fun but it is also good exercise. When you ride a bike, almost all of the parts of your body are moving. Your hands and arms are maneuvering the handlebars for each turn, both of your feet pumping up and down to make the wheels turn and your whole body moving with the motion of the entire bike. Now isn't that full body exercise. Getting your kid a bike would mean you won't have to remind him to get a few minutes of exercise each day as he can do the same while riding his bike.
